Introduction
One can request a copy of a Hungarian birth / marriage / decease certificate (issued by the Hungarian authorities) at the Consulate.
Who can initiate this procedure?
Anyone who needs a copy of his/her (or his/her direct ancestors’) Hungarian certificates.
IMPORTANT!
Please note that family tree searches do not fall within the competency of the Consulate!
Documents to be submitted when applying
- Electronically filled-out and printed application form (to be filled out in Hungarian in full, correctly, but not signed!)
- A valid passport
Additionally, when requesting a certificate of a deceased person:
- All original documents that prove beyond doubt the direct descendency with the applicant
- Exact and full Hungarian birth name, date of birth and place of birth (no. of district as well if in Budapest)
Applicants under the age of 18:
- Electronically filled-out and printed application form (to be filled out in Hungarian in full, correctly, but not signed!)
- The original Hungarian documents issued by the Hungarian authorities:
- Parents’ marriage certificate
- Valid Hungarian passports (of the minor and the Hungarian citizen parent)
- The valid Israeli passport (of the non-Hungarian citizen parent)

Method of submission
- The application must be submitted in person, after a prior appointment
- No fast track procedure or emergency appointments are available
- Appointments cannot be booked by phone or e-mail, only online
- Applicants under the age of 18: One of the parents’s presence is required only – minors do not need to be present
