Reissuing a Hungarian certificate (birth/marriage/decease)

Introduction

One can request a copy of a Hungarian birth / marriage / decease certificate (issued by the Hungarian authorities) at the Consulate.


Who can initiate this procedure?

Anyone who needs a copy of his/her (or his/her direct ancestors’) Hungarian certificates.


IMPORTANT!

Please note that family tree searches do not fall within the competency of the Consulate!


Documents to be submitted when applying

  1. Electronically filled-out and printed application form (to be filled out in Hungarian in full, correctly, but not signed!)
  2. A valid passport 

Additionally, when requesting a certificate of a deceased person:

  1. All original documents that prove beyond doubt the direct descendency with the applicant
  2. Exact and full Hungarian birth name, date of birth and place of birth (no. of district as well if in Budapest)

Applicants under the age of 18: 

  1. Electronically filled-out and printed application form (to be filled out in Hungarian in full, correctly, but not signed!)
  2. The original Hungarian documents issued by the Hungarian authorities:
    1. Parents’ marriage certificate  
    2. Valid Hungarian passports (of the minor and the Hungarian citizen parent)
  3. The valid Israeli passport (of the non-Hungarian citizen parent)

Method of submission

  • The application must be submitted in person, after a prior appointment
  • No fast track procedure or emergency appointments are available
  • Appointments cannot be booked by phone or e-mail, only online
  • Applicants under the age of 18: One of the parents’s presence is required only – minors do not need to be present

Duration of procedure

1-4 weeks.
