PASSPORT APPLICATION - FIRST/RENEWAL (SAME PROCESS)

Who can initiate this procedure?

Only Hungarian citizens can apply for a passport/renewal of a passport (same process).

IMPORTANT:

No passport application/renewal can be submitted in case:

Any of the applicant’s life events (birth, marriage, divorce or spouse's decease) or your change of name have not yet been registered in Hungary. You are obliged by the law to do this - thus no passport application can be submitted beforehand. For further clarification, please contact us at: consinfo.tlv@mfa.gov.hu
Any of the required documents are missing
You are not a Hungarian citizen yet

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that misleading the Hungarian authorities and providing false information is a criminal offense that may result in criminal proceedings.

Do not book an appointment for passport application until all requirements are met, since in this case the application cannot be submitted.

Documents to be submitted when applying

ALL APPLICANTS:

A passport photo not older than 1 month with the following requirements:

Passport photo size – 35X45 mm – with white background only
The face must be in focus, have good contrast and accurately reflect the person’s skin tone
Eyes opened looking straight at the camera, mouth closed, visible ears, no glasses/hats
The photo must contain the applicant only (no objects, other person’s body parts etc. can appear in the photo)

APPLICANTS - AGED 18+

Valid Israeli passport or ID card
Hungarian citizen’s original Hungarian documents issued by the Hungarian authorities:

1. 1. Hungarian passport
  2. Birth certificate
  3. Marriage certificate

In addition, if the applicant has been issued any of the following, they must also be presented:

1. - LIG ”address card”/ a document indicating his/her identification number
  - Certificate of name change „névváltoztatási okirat”

APPLICANTS – AGED 12-17

Both parents and the minor must be present

1. 1. Child’s valid Israeli passport
  2. Valid Hungarian passport of the parent with Hungarian citizenship
  3. Valid Israeli passport of the non-Hungarian citizen parent
  4. Minor with Hungarian citizenship: The original Hungarian documents issued by the Hungarian authorities:

1. 1. 1. 1. Child’s Hungarian passport
      2. Child’s birth certificate
      3. Child’s LIG ”address card” / a document indicating his/her identification number
      4. Parents’ marriage certificate

APPLICANTS - AGED 0-11

Both parents must be present - the child does not have to be present

Method of submisson

The application must be submitted in person, after a prior appointment.
No fast track procedure or emergency appointments are available
Appointments cannot be booked by phone or e-mail, only online

Duration of procedure

5-6 weeks: in case the applicant has already been issued a Hungarian LIG ”address card” / a document indicating his/her Hungarian identification number
3-5 months: in case the applicant has not yet been issued yet a Hungarian LIG ”address card”/ a document indicating his/her Hungarian identification number
1+ year: in case the applicant’s existing Hungarian passport expired more than a year ago and he/she has not yet been issued a Hungarian LIG ”address card”/ a document indicating his/her Hungarian identification number

LOST/STOLEN PASSPORTS

In case your Hungarian passport has been stolen or lost, it must immediately be reported to the Hungarian authorities in order to prevent its misuse. Please contact us at: consinfo.tlv@mfa.gov.hu

A new passport can be applied for with the same requirements as indicated above.
