Changing Hungarian residence to a foreign one

Introduction

A Hungarian citizen can notify the Hungarian authorities regarding his/her address change from a Hungarian to a foreign one at the Consulate. 

Who can initiate this procedure?

Hungarian citizens who:

  1. have already been issued a Hungarian LIG ”address card” / a document indicating their identification number and
  2. have a Hungarian registered address in the Hungarian state registry

IMPORTANT:

No application can be submitted in case any of your life events (birth, marriage, divorce or spouse's decease) have not been registered yet in Hungary. You are obliged by the law to do this beforehand. For further clarification, please contact consinfo.tlv@mfa.gov.hu

Documents to be submitted

  1. Electronically filled-out and printed application form (to be filled out in Hungarian in full, correctly, but not signed!) 
  2. The original Hungarian documents issued by the Hungarian authorities
    1. LIG ”address card”/ a document indicating his/her identification number 
    2. A valid Hungarian passport

 Applicants under the age of 18: 

  1. Electronically filled-out and printed application form (to be filled out in Hungarian in full, correctly, but not signed!)
  2. The original Hungarian documents issued by the Hungarian authorities
    1. Minor's birth certificate
    2. Minor’s LIG ”address card”/ a document indicating his/her identification number
    3. Parents’ marriage certificate
    4. Valid Hungarian passports (of the minor and the Hungarian citizen parent)

3. The valid Israeli passport (of the non-Hungarian citizen parent)

Method of submission

  • The application must be submitted in person after a prior appointment
  • No fast track procedure or emergency appointments are available
  • Appointments cannot be booked by phone or e-mail, only online
  • Applicants under the age of 18: the joint presence of both parents is required when applying – children do not need to be present
