Introduction

Any registration of a Hungarian citizen's marriage concluded abroad can be done at the Consulate.


 

Who can apply for the procedure?

The condition for submitting the application is that one of the parties (spouse) can prove his / her Hungarian citizenship both at the time of the marriage and the submission of the application.

If you cannot prove it, then the registration must be started together with citizenship verification process.


 

Documents to be submitted

  • Original Israeli marriage certificate with Apostille authentication (this can solely be obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel in Jerusalem, digital or e-Apostille is not accepted), and its precise Hungarian translation. Apostille or notarial certification is not required for the translation itself). The certificate must contain a concrete place name (e.g. name of village, town, moshav, kibbutz) as the place of the ceremony. 
  • Hungarian original birth certificate and Hungarian address card (LIG) issued by the Hungarian authorities of the Hungarian citizen spouse
  • Electronically completed and printed, but not signed application form
  • The Hungarian spouse must prove his/her dentity and Hungarian citizenship with an original Hungarian passport or identity card that is valid currently and at the time of the wedding ceremony
  • Proof of citizenship and identity of the non-Hungarian spouse: a valid Israeli passport

 

Method of submission

The joint presence of both parties (spouse) is required when applying for the procedure.


 

Duration of procedure

Usually 6-8 months, but it can take longer. No fast track process or emergency appointments are available.


 

Fees

The service is free of charge.


 

Other important information

Before booking an appointment, the consular officer must be notified if any of the following apply to you:

  • You have been divorced before
  • Your birth name changed before marriage as compared to how your name appears in your Hungarian documents
  • Your current marital name differs from the marital name indicated on the Israeli marriage certificate
  • The Hungarian citizen spouse has an official registered address in Hungary
